About Us

Mission

Local Relief Aid inspires, equips, and mobilizes people to take action to affect positive change in their communities. We strengthen the impact of regional partners by effectively engaging individuals, families, youth, seniors, and companies with meaningful resources and services.

History

Local Relief Aid was founded in Kirkland, WA by Brent J. Helms, a developer and early social innovator. Helms created the Resource Benefits philosophy of “a hand up, not a hand out” when he collected used household goods and clothing.  Then in order to get the word out, he thought wouldn’t it be great if we notify and alert everyone to join and participate. More than 5 years later, Resource Benefits is now an established name and leading nonprofit provider of community benefits and workforce-related services.
